My name is Lydia Baldwin, and I have worked for 10 years as a speech-language pathologist working with clients across the lifespan. My areas of specialization include aphasia, fluency disorders, autism as well as augmentative and alternative communication. I am located in Keller, TX where I live with my husband, son and daughter.
Why Round Moon?
It was during a challenging season that I first heard the phrase "the moon is always round" during a sermon. In that context the phrase means that God is sovereign. He remains in control even when we cannot perceive it. As I embarked upon opening my own private practice, I felt the concept could also be applied to those that we love with difficulties communicating, from the child with non-verbal autism to the adult who newly suffered a stroke. Individuals who have difficulties communicating are often overlooked because only part of them can be perceived. The fullness of who they are is not known. I have dedicated my speech practice to helping these individuals become fully known by giving them a means to communicate or by improving their present communication skills.
Aphasia is a language disorder caused by damaged to the language areas of the brain. This usually occurs as the result of a stroke, brain tumor or traumatic brain injury. Aphasia is a language disorder caused by damaged to the language areas of the brain. This usually occurs as the result of a stroke, brain tumor or traumatic brain injury. A person may have difficulties understanding what is said to them and/or have difficulties with word finding and/or saying words correctly. The core of my graduate research was on aphasia. I have worked with this population in a variety of settings at the acute stage as well as years following the injury.
Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that results in a range of communication impairments and/or differences with great emphasis on difficulties with social communication skills. I have worked with individuals on the autism spectrum with varying levels of speech and language involvement across the lifespan.
Fluency disorders are what is more commonly referred to a "stuttering" or "stammering". I specialize in the treatment of preschool, school-aged as well as adult fluency disorders. My graduate school program had an emphasis on fluency disorders that is not present in all programs. I feel especially equipped and skilled in addressing this area given my background.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication or (AAC) refers to any type of deviation or modification of standard vocal communication. AAC could be anything from sign language to the use of pictures to convey wants/needs to an advanced device that speaks for the person. AAC could be used by a child with non-verbal autism or for an adult with speech and language deficits subsequent to a stroke. I have experience with the full range of AAC but specially specialize in picture exchange systems as well as the programing of AAC devices.
